Here at Ryal Bush, we work with the belief that Health and Safety is a team effort!

We pride ourselves in involving our staff in all aspects of health and safety within our business. We operate under a comprehensive Procedure Manual that not only provides a safe way of operating but also manages all the risk associated within their tasks and controls to assist them in completing them safely and efficiently.

We invited Wiremu and Marsella Edmonds to speak to our staff, they tragically lost their son in a forestry accident. They hope New Zealanders of all ages will do the right thing and "Stand in the Gap'' . We at Ryal Bush also want to Stand in the Gap. We encourage our drivers to Stand in the Gap. To do this we continue to train all our drivers and operators to ensure they stay at the top of their profession. We manage and monitor their performance to ensure we meet all our obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.

We pride ourselves in the up-skilling of our staff and regularly provide competency based training within their specialty. We put our drivers and operators through rigorous training with the support of the HWR Driver Training with Driver Assessments, Loader Competencies and they also take through any new drivers their licences.

  • Roll Over Prevention
  • First Aid

With our commitment to ensuring we all go home safe every day the way we came to work we have also provided Asbestos Awareness training to keep our drivers and operators educated in the work we are doing. Being part of any demolition whether it's a burnt out shed out the back of the farm to the corner of Dee and Don Street's ILT site, keeping our drivers educated in their profession gives them the skills to make the safe choices. We have also put our Demolition team through Asbestos ID and Safe Removal through our very own educational provider SIT. If we give our boys and girls the right tools then we know we have ensured their safe return home each day.

We look outside the box and have provided our staff with a presentation by John Parson who talked about "Keeping Your Child Safe". Our business is made of two parts, the employee and their family who also make this company what it is today.Without the support from their families, we couldn't be the business we are today and if we can provide support through having Key Speakers to provide us with tools to keep their families safe then we are on the right track.

We talk a lot of Safety but Health is also very important. We provide annual health monitoring where our drivers are seen by a Occupational Health Nurse. We are also providing an optional service this year that could be a life changer to many. Watch this Space for more details soon.

We have engaged key staff within the business to be part of the Health and Safety Committee and they have been train to be Health and Safety Representative for their divisions. They have a major influence in the policies and procedures within the company where they are consulted on all changes and new procedures. These are reviewed on a yearly basis.

Being part of the wider HW Richardson Group of companies we are subject to yearly audits. We engage Work Safe on many of our contracting projects to ensure we have completed all the required industry standards to the highest level of health and safety. We have been commended on all of them and we have had no injuries reported on these projects.
